These are some of the more frequently asked questions about hair extensions. If you have a question that is not answered below, please email me at email@example.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible with an answer.
Hair extensions are a great way to enhance and change up your natural look. For those with thinner hair, extensions can be used to add that much desired thickness or that much needed length. If you are after colour without the commitment, you can use extensions to add highlights or even something a little more daring.
Yes, in most cases anyone wanting hair extensions can have them fitted. If you have a scalp condition such as eczema or psoriasis, hair extensions might not be suitable.
There are many different types of hair extensions available.
Clip–in hair extensions: This is a great temporary hair extension option for those seeking a quick transformation. This is ideal for date night or special occasions. There is zero commitment to clip-in extensions and they can be an inexpensive introduction to the world of hair extensions!
Tape hair extensions: This method of hair extensions uses adhesive tape which is then attached on either side of your own hair near to the root. Perfect for those with fine hair and those who want to try more permanent extensions.
Weft: A long section of hair is sewn together in a lace weft strip which can be then attached to your hair by a stylist using either a sewing, plaiting or gluing technique. The wefts can be cut to length to add several strips to create the finished look.
Pre-bonded: The popular pre-bonded hair extensions are ideal for those looking for a long-term product to invest in that can provide length and volume for up to one year with regular maintenance. Pre-bonded hair extensions can be applied to your hair in several different ways, including hot or cold fusion and by micro ring method.
I recommend having your hair up to 4-5 inches long before booking in for a fitting.
The first step when deciding to have hair extensions is to think about what you want to achieve. More volume, length or colour? Are you after a certain image? In which case booking a consultation would be your next step. During your consultation you can discuss with your hair extensions specialist the image you have in mind. You will be advised how you can achieve the look with hair extensions, including which method will be suited to the hair. The consultation will also cover the cost and booking in for your fist appointment.
Hair extensions cost varies throughout the UK. A professional hair extension service including your hair extensions can cost between £199 to £700.

These FAQs provide basic information to people who have little or no experience getting on braids. The questions have been answered using a combination of experience and research. Whilst I've made every effort to provide good information in my FAQs, you should feel free to do additional research on any subject to supplement your knowledge. These FAQs reflect Free Spirit Beauty Service Standards.
Free Spirit Beauty's braiding service can take between 4 to 9 hours. It really depends on the size and length of the braids. Other factors can add time to the service such as:
Some natural colours are included in the price. For example black, brown, blonde. I can also pre-order some common colours red, purple, blue given 24 hours’ notice. If you would like ombre, mixed colours or more vibrant colours you will need to buy those and bring them with you to your appointment. To manage my quality of service please note that I only work with Xpression, Impression, Spectra braiding hair. I cannot braid with unbranded, low quality hair, usually sold online.
I can braid the hair if it's a minimum of 3 inches all around.
With proper care braids can last 4 to 8 weeks. Some of the small fine hair around the perimeter of the head (baby hairs) may come loose within two weeks making the braids look messy. You can slow down this process by applying styling foam and tying the hair at night. For styling in the day, use gel to tame the edges. Hair growth also affects how long the braids last. If your hair grows very fast you will notice after a few weeks that the braids will be hanging from the newly grown hair. For further information about braids aftercare, please see our Aftercare page.
Yes, you can wash your hair while you have braids. I recommend using a spray bottle with shampoo and some water. Spray your scalp and braids with it to cleanse, then rinse in the shower. You can use conditioner with the same method. Avoid vigorous rubbing at the roots of the braids as this will loosen up the braids. How often you wash your braids is really up to you. It’s recommended to wash them at least once every two weeks. I personally wash mine once every week.
